What Year Was It?

What year is this quote referring to?

Religious activity is at a peak, as measured by attendance & offerings. However, religion has absolutely no positive impact on the moral & ethical ills of society, but rather only seems to exacerbate them.

Answer with your selection in the comments box. I’ll post the answer tomorrow afternoon. The person who gets the closest will win a free Deviant T-shirt!

The correct answer is: 793-753 B.C.! This period of time was when Jeroboam II was king in Israel. This period can be found in 2 Kings 14:23-29 in the Old Testament.

That makes Tom Pohl our winner! @Billy_Johnson was close too, so we’ll give him a shirt as well! Direct Message me on Twitter your address and T-shirt size and we’ll ship it out to you ASAP.

This was hands down the best conversation we’ve ever had on BeDeviant.com. Thanks to everyone who played!

One most only use critical thinking skills to figure out which group is right and which is wrong. Why would Justin post a quote from 2008 and ask what year it was from? That is stupid and pointless.

Clearly the interesting thing about this quote is that it has context for today but it was not written today.

I ask you again, why would he post a quote from today's time period and then ask what year it was from?

I don't know the year...but I know it's not recent. My guess was going to be 1517, but Nick already guessed that - so in honor or Bob Barker, my guess is 1518. Eat it, Brannen!

These are the same critical thinking skills that allow me to predict what will happen on LOST each week.

If I am wrong, I am a fool.

If he posted a quote talking about the current times, it would force us to reflect deeper upon the matter because we would be personally involved it the claims the statement is making. If the statement relates to 1518, per your guess, then we do not relate as directly because the church back then is not the same as the church now. That was my reasoning.
Your logic makes sense, though, and in all reality is probably the correct guess. But that doesn't make mine "stupid and pointless". That was a childish thing of you to say.
  • Dave Eickelberg
Well Paul, I'm a pretty childish person.

You are not stupid, nor are you pointless.

Sarcasm doesn't always work via the internet because you cannot read my nonverbal signals that I would be sending.

So I will do my best to send resend some nonverbal signals...

"why would Just post a quote from 2008 and ask what year it was from? That is stupid and pointless :) lol...."

Does the smiley face and lol help?

    Yeah :) lol

    just got pwned. haha.
  • This is so interesting.... One "group" is very wrong. The other "group" is very right.
